Qatar Biobank took part in Qatar National Day celebrations, which concluded last week at Darb Al Saai. Visitors to the Qatar Foundation tent had the chance to take a non-intrusive basic health check where height, weight, grip strength were measured and a Body Mass Index machine recorded the details.
The activity provided an overview of Qatar Biobank’s medical research drive to study the general health of the Qatari population, including various health conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and diabetes.
In addition to the health check for adults, a kids’ corner was set aside complete with big beanbags to relax upon while partaking in a touch screen game where youngsters had a go at becoming a doctor for the day. A fantastic touch screen quiz for all ages and a giant screen Trivial Pursuit game proved a very popular attraction.
Interested visitors learned about the benefits of participating at Qatar Biobank and had the chance to register for the medical research. Getting involved is very straightforward. After registering to participate, volunteers first speak with a nurse at Qatar Biobank’s facility located in Hamad Medical City. During the interview, nurses ask about the participant’s family medical history, current health issues, lifestyle and other information.
